- Participates in the installation, maintenance, periodic upgrades and operation of beamline components.
- Participates in beamline quality assurance and preventative maintenance procedures for the safe and efficient operation of the beamline.
- Undertakes and oversees medium to large projects of high complexity on the beamline, providing scientific leadership within a project team.
- May provide expert technical review of beamtime proposals and input to the Peer Review Committee (PRC) concerning general user proposals.
- Develops recognized scientific expertise related to the beamline or equipment by establishing an approved research program (independently or collaboratively) in one of the research focus areas of health, agriculture, environment, or advanced materials, utilizing up to 20% of CLS resources (time, equipment, materials, beamtime).
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, or a closely related field.
- Experience with macromolecular crystallography techniques, including protein purification, crystallization, and data collection.
- Experience in operating and maintaining beamline instrumentation (highly desirable).
- Excellent data analysis skills, including experience with crystallographic software packages (e.g., XDS, CCP4, Phenix).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.
