Job Description
The Nation Builder Advocate provides cultural supports to the School Success Team and all staff, identifying ways to appropriately and consistently include First Nations/Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing into action plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works conscientiously in collaboration with T4EA staff and school staffs to develop and implement strategies and action plans that support student engagement and retention, with a specific focus
The Nation Builder Advocate provides cultural supports to the School Success Team and all staff, identifying ways to appropriately and consistently include First Nations/Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing into action plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works conscientiously in collaboration with T4EA staff and school staffs to develop and implement strategies and action plans that support student engagement and retention, with a specific focus on local strengths, First Nations cultural strategies and Indigenous knowledge.
Develops effective communication strategies to build deeper understanding of T4EA program mandate and goals with/for a variety of audiences and stakeholders, particularly as it relates to student engagement and retention.
Acts as a primary liaison support for student/community school leadership relationship building, providing cultural supports to improve and facilitate communication. Works in collaboration with the Cultural Advocates to build and develop our work with Elders and other community knowledge keepers and guides.
Supports communities (leadership, families/caregivers and staffs) in understanding the importance of community engagement and family involvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Superior organization, confidentiality and sensitivity to community, school and student data and information.
Ability to develop and/or support program development, adaptations/innovations, supportive resources, and professional learning opportunities
Challenge, influence and capability of motivating students to attain high goals
Collaboration and networking with others inside and outside the school community
Mutual respect by affirming and empowering others to work in the best interests of all students.
A degree, diploma or certificate from a recognized program is preferred, but consideration is given to those possessing a combination of education, skills and experience
