Income Assistance workers are empathetic, compassionate, non-judgmental, well-organized collaborators with excellent communication skills who treat all people with dignity, respect, and objectivity. They accept and understand the importance of the clients perspective in a client-friendly approach to case planning, and are flexible when working with clients and their families, and community organizations. They are reliable and adapt easily to changes in workload, policies and procedures in a continuously changing environment, and demonstrate the Governments core values (respect and integrity, serving citizens, excellence and innovation and acting as one team) in all work duties and interactions.
Income Assistance Workers work closely with a diverse clientele to help them maximize their independence, autonomy and quality of life. As a part of a larger team of professionals you will work with clients in person and on the phone using various interviewing and supportive counselling techniques; assess needs though a strength-based and solution focused case management model while using the clients own motivations for change and commitment; and develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust case plans in collaboration with the client to establish goals and meet diverse needs. You are required to work flexible hours that accommodate the needs of the clients and the program and may be required to travel.
Typically, the knowledge of Income Assistance work is obtained through completion of a post-secondary education in the human services field. This may include a certification, diploma or degree and relevant experience.
