The Yorkton Tribal Council is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of the Water Quality Technician (Term Position). The Water Quality Technician is responsible for collecting and testing water samples on First Nations to ensure safe drinking water. This position advises on corrective measures if needed, keeps accurate written documentation and has regular and ongoing interaction with key authorities, householders and public facility managers.
Reporting to the Director Health and Social Development, the Water Quality Technician is responsible for the following:
Duties:
Collecting and testing drinking water samples from households, public facilities and water sources (e.g. wells and cisterns) according to departmental policies and procedures
Completes record sheets regarding water collection and test results
Forward results of water tests to the appropriate authority
Notifies householders, public facility managers and appropriate authorities if water is unsafe to drink, and consults with the appropriate authorities to advise on corrective measures
Educates the community on proper water storage practices and educates children on the importance of safe drinking water
Delivers written and oral reports to the Council
Orders required laboratory equipment and supplies
Creates quarterly and annual reports for EHO
Qualifications:
Must have a minimum grade 12 education with some previous knowledge of water treatment practices
Level 1 Water and Wastewater training certification is considered to be an asset
Must be willing to travel, must possess a valid drivers license and maintain throughout employment as well as have a reliable vehicle
Must submit a current Criminal Record Check.
Work irregular or extended hours to complete special requests and/or projects
