What you will be doing:
- Interviewing watercraft owners to determine the risk a conveyance or equipment poses.
- Thoroughly inspecting various types of boats and other watercraft, including water-related equipment, for the presence of aquatic invasive species.
- Educating watercraft owners about the threat of aquatic invasive species, methods of prevention, and how to comply with provincial regulations.
- As an appointed Fishery Officer, complete legal paperwork and communicate provincial regulations in a professional manner.
- Operating the watercraft decontamination unit which involves the ability to connect, tow, and backup a small trailer and control a hot water pressure washer system.
What skills you should have:
- Knowledge of aquatic invasive species biology, ecology, impacts, and spread.
- An understanding of different types of watercrafts and their systems gained through boating or other experience
- Confidence to educate watercraft owners about aquatic invasive species and inform provincial regulations.
- Great attention to detail to conduct thorough inspections and accurately complete legal paperwork.
- Ability to deal with conflict and difficult people and maintain composure in a high-pressure environment with professionalism.
- Capable of working outdoors in adverse weather conditions (heat, wind, rain) for long hours.
- Flexibility to work a rotational schedule that will include many weekend shifts and a work environment that is primarily outdoors.
- A valid drivers license.
