The City of Swift Current is seeking a progressive, innovative and achievement-oriented staff member to fill a permanent Water Treatment Plant Operator position.
Shift work, call back, overtime, and stand-by including nights, weekends and holidays are required. The successful candidate is required to reside within a 20-minute response time of the Water Treatment Plant located within the City of Swift Current.
Reporting to the Superintendent of Water Treatment Plant, The Water Treatment Plant (WTP) operators main responsibility is to provide safe potable water for the City of Swift Current water distribution system. The Plant operator (on call) performs daily activities primarily consisting of controlling any process which affects the quality of the water including collecting representative samples, laboratory tests, results analysis, process/chemical changes, flow/pressure monitoring and record keeping while fulfilling all requirements of the WTP Permit to Operate. Operators (not operating plant or on call) main responsibilities include cleaning, preventive and corrective maintenance, regulatory bacteriological sampling, checking and maintaining boosters, reservoirs and transfer stations.
Required Qualifications:
- Grade 12 diploma.
- Must successfully complete Office of Water Programs Sacramento State Water Treatment 1 and 2 within 18 months of hire.
- Must be progressively working towards a Saskatchewan OCB Class IV Certification in Water Treatment and Distribution.
- Must be certified as a Class 1 Water Treatment Plant Operator within 18 months of hire.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License.
- Must be able to lift 25 kilograms.
- Knowledge and experience in the operation of pumps, valves, motors, hydraulics, instrumentation, etc.
- Mechanical aptitude required to perform maintenance of Water Treatment Plant and remote station buildings and equipment.
