The Ministry of Highways, Southern Operations, is seeking a seasonal Supervisor of Ferry Operations for the Riverhurst Ferry in the Moose Jaw District. This position oversees the safe and efficient operation of a large cable ferry transporting vehicles, farm machinery, semis, and passengers across Lake Diefenbaker. The work period is approximately April 1 to December 31 each year.
As Supervisor, you will manage daily ferry operations, supervise and train staff, create work schedules for 11 ferry operators, and ensure schedules meet 24/7 operational requirements. You will monitor water flows, determine maximum allowable weights, and update signage for weight limits or closures due to repairs or environmental conditions. Duties also include servicing the ferrywashing, fueling, greasing, sanding, paintingand maintaining grounds and buildings at the crossing. You will participate in spring launch and end-of-season dry docking, compile supply lists for the next season, and communicate with the district office and repair depot regarding operational issues and repairs.
Administrative responsibilities include submitting timesheets and daily traffic data sheets detailing crossings, vehicle types, and passenger counts. This role requires working shifts, weekends, and holidays, often independently, and being in good physical condition for heavy lifting and working in adverse weather.
