Animal Care Attendant - Level 1

Job Description
Under the direction of Shelter Management or designate, the Animal Care Attendant will take on departmental functions that ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the animals that come under the care of the Saskatoon SPCA. The Saskatoon SPCA is interested in applicants who have previous experience in animal husbandry and in customer relations.

The Saskatoon SPCA is interested in applicants who have previous experience in animal husbandry and in customer relations.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge in animal welfare practices related to animal sheltering, adoptions, and euthanasia.
Possession of a valid SK Drivers License
Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration.
Must possess clear communication skills.
Must have a genuine interest in animal welfare and demonstrate empathy and compassion.
Ability to manage the physical requirements of the position for extended periods.
Computer literacy is required.
Ability to function effectively under challenging circumstances.
Organizational skills in order to meet time demands.
Duties
Adhere to policies and procedures, promoting the shelters mission and values related to animal welfare.
Regular and ongoing cleaning and disinfecting of the facility, including common areas, kennels, and equipment.
Provide animals with appropriate housing, food, and clean water.
Perform shelter rounds and population monitoring.
Perform exams on all animals, including checking for identification, administering vaccines, deworming, and other treatments as required. Schedule and and complete follow-up examinations and treatments.
Identify and address medical and behavioral concerns.
Administer medications to animals following standard operating procedures or as prescribed by licensed veterinarians.
Perform routine post-operative exams of all animals after surgery; process discharge notes.
Able to handle and restrain animals of multiple species and temperaments safely. Display a commitment to humane and low-stress handling methods.
Other duties as assigned.
How to Apply: This is a casual position, with no guaranteed minimum hours per week. Shifts are offered based on operational need.
