About the Role:
The Director of Urban Indigenous Health and Wellness Systems will lead development of an Indigenous-led urban health portfolio rooted in mental health and community-based care. The role builds on the strengths of Friendship Centres who provide trusted services to urban Indigenous communities.
The Director is responsible for advancing complex initiatives from concept through feasibility to funding readiness. The role focuses on strategic design, relationship building and systems alignment to ensure initiatives are culturally grounded, credible and positioned for long term sustainability beyond the initial start up period through 2028.
What You Will Do:
You will design and advance a comprehensive urban Indigenous health and wellness portfolio, with mental health as a foundation. This includes identifying priority health needs and translating community direction into scalable models delivered through Friendship Centres and supported by broader health systems.
You will lead feasibility and systems planning for community-based services and explore urban-aligned and northern birthing centre models. Work includes regulatory, workforce, governance, and infrastructure planning, with phased approaches to support long-term sustainability.
Relationship building and funding development are central. You will strengthen partnerships with governments, health leaders and providers; develop long-term funding strategies, track system-level outcomes and advise the Executive Director.
Who We Are Looking For:
A senior leader with experience in Indigenous health, urban health systems, mental health, or public policy, and a strong understanding health operations.
