The ministry is looking for candidates who are reliable, safetyfocused, and capable of performing demanding work in varied and extreme weather conditions. Applicants must bring a positive attitude, strong teamwork skills, adaptability, and the ability to remain composed during stressful or changing situations.
A valid Class 1A license is required, and a current drivers abstract must be provided if selected for an interview.
Ideal candidates demonstrate strong situational awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to make critical decisions that impact public safety. Basic computer skills are needed for email and time/expense submissions, along with the capacity to work flexible hours as operational needs arise.
Key knowledge and skills include the ability to operate, service, and maintain heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with specialized attachments, motor graders, and frontend loaders.
Candidates must be able to operate advanced hydraulic controls for plows, wings, and sanders, especially during winter storm response.
Physical ability for labour, heavy lifting, and mentally demanding tasks is essential.
If space allows: Responsibilities include performing summer and winter highway maintenance, conducting surveillance to ensure roadway safety, completing daily records such as hours, inspections, and material usage, and contributing to a safe, healthy team environment.
