The Ministry of Community Safety is seeking creative, innovative and adaptable individuals to join the Paul Dojack Youth Centre as Substitute Teacher Therapists. The ministry offers an opportunity to support youth ages 12 to 17 in custody through meaningful education programming delivered within a secure classroom environment. Successful candidates will contribute to a safe and fair justice system by helping youth work toward positive educational outcomes.
The ideal candidate is committed to supporting adolescents in custody, demonstrates professionalism, and can work effectively within a multigrade, curriculumbased classroom. They bring strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, sound judgement and an ability to manage behaviour while maintaining a structured, supportive learning space. A dedication to the ministrys mandate of safety, fairness and community wellbeing is essential.
Candidates must have knowledge of Saskatchewan Core Curriculum, elective courses, Common Essential Learnings, curriculum design, classroom and behaviour management, instructional strategies, assessment methods, multicultural perspectives, adolescent development and the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A Bachelor of Education, a Professional A Teaching Certificate, and eligibility for registration with the Saskatchewan Teachers Regulatory Board are required. Experience in custody or communitybased education programs is preferred. A valid drivers licence and current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (Class A) are also required. If hired, candidates will complete an 11week Induction Training Program. A comprehensive medical evaluation is required in place of COPAT.
Responsibilities include planning, assessing and delivering educational programming for youth in custody within a multigrade classroom setting.
