Job Description
The First Nation Representative worker ensures that the best interests of the children in all court proceedings pertaining to Child Welfare matters is undertaken. This position is responsible for providing direction, coaching and case supervision in all matters pertaining to child welfare protection services ensuring alignment to Montreal Lake policies and procedures as well as the legal framework of the Child
The First Nation Representative worker ensures that the best interests of the children in all court proceedings pertaining to Child Welfare matters is undertaken. This position is responsible for providing direction, coaching and case supervision in all matters pertaining to child welfare protection services ensuring alignment to Montreal Lake policies and procedures as well as the legal framework of the Child and Family Services Act. This individual will liase between Child and Family Services and other service providers provincially and across Canada.They will provide family support services that promote the culture and aspirations of the First Nation.Provide invaluable support to children during court proceedings, meetings with parents and caregivers, and interactions with Indigenous and non-Indigenous agencies and legal services. Familiar with terms of legal documents including Voluntary Service Agreements, Safety Plans, Temporary Care Agreements and consents. Provide input and direction in case conferences, service planning with families including caregivers.
Qualifications are as follows:
1.Master of Social Work degree is preferred, however Bachelor of Social Work degree or degree in related field will be considered.
2.Some experience in child welfare protection or social service agency
3.Some experience working in Family Law court proceedings and with court system within a First Nations community.
4.Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act.
5.Knowledge of relevant legislative framework and policies reflecting current child welfare practice.
6.Knowledge of Montreal Lake Cree Nation of service delivery, customs, and tradition in responding to child welfare.
7.Strong leadership and management skills.
8.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Travel is required, vehicle provided.Some work at MLCN, and some at Little Red River Reserve.
