The City of Prince Albert is seeking a summer student in the position ofEngineering Technician I from approximately early May to the end of August. The role will contributeto the effective delivery of municipal engineering services by providing technical and field support to the Public Works Department. Supervised by experienced engineering staff, the incumbent assists with surveying and QA/QC activities, ensuring that the accuracy and integrity of municipal infrastructure information.
In a collaborative team environment, the position performs field duties including marking and pounding hubs and lathe, utilizing a rod and level, and at times may undertake primary survey tasks as assigned under supervision. Through reliable technical assistance and attention to detail, the Engineering Technician I supports the planning, development, and ongoing maintenance of municipal infrastructure.
Qualifications
Applicant must have successfully completed a minimum of one (1) year of post-secondary education in a relevant engineering degree program or an accredited engineering technologist diploma program. Proof of enrollment and completion of coursework is required.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Assist experienced engineering staff in the provision surveying services for municipal infrastructure projects.
Assist the assigned supervisor or designates in the day-to-day operation of Municipal projects and utility works.
Perform data entry and maintain technical records within databases, spreadsheets and maps.
Collaborate with the engineering team to understand project requirements and specifications.
Develop and maintain geographical information system, engineering databases and digital maps.
Assist with on-site project supervision on subdivision, capital works, and maintenance projects including performing QA/QC duties as assigned.
