The ministry is seeking a highly motivated, safety-conscious Equipment Operator for the Nipawin Section who thrives in team-based environments and is prepared to work flexible hours under demanding conditions. The ideal candidate is approachable, adaptable, and self-motivated, with strong situational awareness and the ability to make sound decisions that impact public safety. Candidates must work effectively in inclusive and diverse settings and remain calm and focused during stressful or rapidly changing situations.
To qualify, candidates must hold a valid Class 1A drivers licence and provide a current driver abstract if invited to interview. The role requires physical stamina, including heavy lifting, and the ability to work in extreme and changing weather conditions. Basic computer skills are required to manage email, submit timecards and expense claims, and maintain operational records.
Key responsibilities include operating, servicing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with specialized attachments, motor graders, and front-end loaders for summer and winter maintenance. Duties also include operating advanced hydraulic systems for plows, wings, and sanders, conducting road surveillance, maintaining daily logs and pre-trip inspections, and working collaboratively to ensure the safety of the travelling public.
