Flying Dust First Nation is seeking a motivated and compassionate Emergency Response Coordinator to support community safety, emergency preparedness, and response efforts. This role works closely with leadership, health teams, and external partners to ensure timely, culturally appropriate, and trauma-informed responses to emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and support response efforts during emergencies (e.g., wildfires, mental health crises, public safety incidents, evacuations)
Assist in activating and implementing community emergency response plans and protocols
Support evacuation planning, emergency shelter coordination, and recovery activities
Work closely with Chief and Council, community departments, and external agencies to ensure coordinated response efforts
Build community capacity by supporting training, emergency exercises, and preparedness initiatives
Deliver or coordinate emergency preparedness, safety, and crisis response training
Promote culturally appropriate, trauma-informed approaches to emergency response and community safety
Maintain accurate records, documentation, and assist with reporting and after-action reviews
Skills & Qualifications:
Grade 12 diploma with relevant experience
Experience working with First Nations communities preferred
Experience in emergency response or crisis coordination
Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
Ability to work in high-pressure situations
Culturally respectful, trauma-informed approach
Valid drivers license and willingness to travel
Ability to work flexible/on-call hours
Certifications (or willingness to obtain):
First Aid & CPR
First Responder training
Suicide Prevention/Crisis Intervention (ASIST, safeTALK)
ICS Training (preferred)Grade 12 diploma with relevant experience
