The Director of Finance reports directly to the Kahkewistahaw First Nation Chief and Council and is responsible for the strategic leadership and overall management of all financial operations for the First Nation and its related entities. This role oversees financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance functions while ensuring effective financial stewardship and accountability. The Director of Finance is responsible for developing and implementing financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting systems that support organizational objectives and ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and accounting standards. The position also supervises core financial functions, including general accounting, accounts receivable, collections, and payroll operations
REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
1. Formal Education in Business Administration, Commerce or Financial Management, CAFM or an equivalent of education and experience.
2. Three (3) to Five (5) years work experience in accounting and management.
3. Experience with various programs & services and ensure proper protocol is being followed.
4. Experience and knowledge of the various funding agreements under First Nation Management.
5. Knowledge of First Nation Government structure, culture, traditions, and social issues.
6. Strong Problem-solving skills, be able to analyze and forecast solutions.
7. Strong Leadership Skills, to be able to supervise or be a team leader and work with others. Excellent communications skills to effectively deal with the Chief and Council, Staff and Band Membership, internal and external agencies.
8. Have the skills to operate a computer with Microsoft Office applications, working knowledge of database management, and statistical data analysis.
9. Have strong management skills with the ability to supervise staff.
